The Main Thing

Someone once said that it’s important to “keep the main thing, the main
thing” in our lives. It’s so easy to get off track and become
distracted from the reason God has called us into this ministry.

The main thing for CMA members is to win the lost, one heart at a time.
We understand that we are primarily a motorcycle ministry, but that
should not limit us in our sharing of the Gospel message.

Jesus said that the man that puts his hand to the plow and looks back is
not fit for the kingdom of God. Now, that sounds pretty harsh. What
Jesus was saying, in a nutshell, was that we need to stay focused on the
work at hand. We need to keep the main thing the main thing.

As a young man, I worked on a farm in California. One of the jobs I had
was to lay out the rows for planting cotton. Some of the rows were up
to a mile long. In order to keep the rows straight, it was necessary to
focus on a distance point and keep the tractor headed in that direction.
If you looked to the side, or became distracted, you would find that
the rows were laid out in a curve, rather than a straight manner. This
wouldn’t seem to be a big problem until you tried to plant seeds in a
crooked row. The planter had to keep the seeds in the top of the row in
order for them to grow successfully. The rows also had to be straight in
order for the irrigation water to properly flow to the seeds.

By the same token, the life we walk determines how our seeds will be
planted. If we have been walking to the left or to the right and
deviating from the straight and narrow path, we will have an effect on
the success of the seeds.

The seeds that Jesus talked about, in almost every instance, was the
Word of God. The soil was prepared by the farmer, but God gave the
increase. As I look back on my life, I see many times where I allowed
the distractions of the world to effect my Christian walk. There are
places where the seeds were planted and they never matured because I had
not provided the right environment for them to grow. The preparation
of the soil is up to the farmer. If he does not prepare well, he can
expect a crop failure.

It has been said that our lives are the only Bible some people will ever
read. That is an awesome responsibility on our part. How we live our
lives directly influences the people we work with, and those we daily
come in contact with. Our lives also influence those we attempt to
witness to at the motorcycle rallies and in the prisons. If we are not
living a life dedicated to God, we will not have much influence on those
around us. It’s simple, If you have not allowed God to change your
life and conform to His Word, how can you expect it to have an influence
on the sinner to which you witness.

Seed planters must keep the “main thing the main thing”. Our job is to
plant the Word. Our job is to make sure that our own soil is tilled in
such a manner that the Word can take root in our lives and allow us to
produce seeds that can be planted in the lives of others. Our lives can
become the plow that prepares the soil of others to receive the Word of
God. By our actions, and reactions to situations, we prepare others to
want to receive what we have in our lives. So I suppose that you could
say that we are tillers, as well as planters. If we allow a Godly
influence in our lives, it will stir the soil in the lives of others.
We may also till and prepare the soil so another person can plant. We
work together to produce a harvest for the kingdom of God.

So, as you focus on the new riding season, focus on keeping your rows
straight. Remember to keep the Main thing, the Main thing.

In the Wind,
