Its Hard To Lick Your Tongue
In James chapter 3 He talks about taming the tongue. He says that we all stumble in many ways. What we say and the things we don’t say each makes a difference. We always want to say the right thing at the right time, and sometimes it’s so hard to keep from saying what we shouldn’t.
James says ships are large and are driven by strong winds. They are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot s wants to go. Like wise the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts.
He compares the damage the tongue can do to a raging fire – The tongue’s wickedness has its source in hell itself. Satan use’s our tongue to pit us against each other when we talk about each other it can cause hurt feelings that Satan can intern cause the hurt person to say more damaging things that can spread into destruction of brotherly love in a group. Most of the time the things talked about is a bunch of half truths by people who don’t know the whole story.
James says all kinds of animals, birds, reptiles and creatures of the sea are being tamed and have been tamed by man but no man can tame the tongue. He says the tongue is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.
Now you may ask yourself if we can’t control our tongue, why we should try. I think we can learn to control our tongues enough to at least reduce the damage our words can do. Remember we don’t have to do this on our own; we have the Holy Spirit to help us. When we are hurt we should remember that God loves us and knowing that, we may not react in a hateful manner.
What comes from our mouth is what is in our heart. With the same tongue we curse someone is the same tongue we give praise to the Father. James says fresh water and salt water can’t flow from the same spring. A salt water spring can’t produce fresh water.
The Holy Spirit will purify our heart with Love and Love will come from our mouth.
God Bless and We love you
